I am Maïlyss’ uncle. My wife and I are currently on holiday with her mum and dad in Rousset. During dinner I asked her dad if the word ‘oops’ existed in French? He informed me that the French equivalent is ‘opus’ and suggested that its origins were probably in the BD possibly in the 1920s.
Looking up the word ‘oops’ online. Of the 60 languages listed a similar word existed in 30 languages! That suggests to me that its origins might well be other than English?
Any ideas?
Best wishes,
